Women's Professional Billiard Association
The WPBA was originally formed in 1976 under the name of the Women's Professional Billiard Alliance. The organization was developed by then contemporary female billiard pros Palmer Byrd and Madelyn Whitlow, along with Larry Miller, then editor of the National Billiard News.
The Women's Professional Billiard Association governs the sport of women's pool through sanctioning tournaments, representing its players in the media, and creating rules and equipment specifications. The WPBA sponsors about a dozen tours throughout North America including the Northwest Women's Pool Association, Hunter Classic Amateur Women's Tour, Western Women's Regional 9-Ball Tour, Canadian Women's Pool Tour, and Southeast Amateur Ladies Tour.
