The origins of the WVU Foundation can be traced to the vision of WVU’s 13th president, Dr. Irvin Stewart. Areas of investment for the group have included the central North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, and the North Falkland Basin. In 2004 the company sold its holding in Westmount Resources, including its West African assets, to Sterling Energy.Westmount Energy disposed of its UK North Sea holdings in 2006. That year the company loaned money to CDS Oil and Gas Group to explore the Chaco Basin in North West Paraguay. In 2008 it sold its interests in CDS Oil and Gas and Eclipse Energy. Its remaining holdings were stakes in Sterling Energy and Desire Petroleum.
