South Carolina State Ports Authority

Offering gateways for trade in the Palmetto State, The South Carolina State Ports Authority operates marine terminals at the Port of Charleston and the Port of Georgetown. The agency maintains its own container terminals at each port and provides container handling services; in addition, space at the ports is leased to other terminal operators. The Port of Charleston provides services for cruise ships as well as for freight-carrying vessels. The South Carolina State Ports Authority is overseen by a nine-member board appointed by the state's governor. The agency was founded in 1942.
