Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, Incorporated

Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) makes the written word accessible to individuals with print disabilities, such as blindness, visual impairments, and dyslexia. The not-for-profit group makes tapes and CDs of textbooks for students in kindergarten through postgraduate studies, as well as recordings of reference and professional materials. In 2008 its 240,000 members borrowed or purchased some 530,000 books. RFB&D operates recording studios through half a dozen regional offices and is beginning to use digital recording. Funded by private donations and government support, RFB&D was founded by Anne MacDonald in 1948 to record textbooks for blind WWII veterans.
