Physicians for Human Rights
Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has an broader vision of the Hippocratic Oath. The not-for-profit works to protect human health by protecting human rights around the globe. Physicians for Human Rights fights to stop torture, disappearances, and political killings and to improve hygiene conditions in prisons. Physicians for Human Rights also defends medical neutrality and the protection of medical personnel during war time. Current projects include the US Campaign to Ban Landmines, Health Action AIDS Campaign, PHR Asylum Network (evaluating asylum seekers), Health and Justice for Youth (monitoring US juvenile detention centers), and Colleagues at Risk (letter-writing campaign to release held medical workers). PHR was founded in 1986.
