Mercy Ships
Mercy Ships brings floating medical care to areas of the world that need it most. The Christian-based not-for-profit serves more than 50 developing nations around the world from its ship Africa Mercy, which has six operating rooms and nearly 500 berths, and a land-based clinic in Sierra Leone. Staff and volunteers perform cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries, cataract and tumor removals, and other medical procedures. Mercy Ships also distributes water purification kits, prescription eyeglasses, and prescriptions, and offers a variety of training and education programs for local workers. Mercy Ships was founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens (who still serve as president and company VP, respectively).
