Oil refiner and marketer Shell Oil Products US and its sister company Motiva have the US covered. It operates refineries in the western US and markets petroleum products via Shell-branded outlets in the West and Midwest. Motiva does the same in the eastern US. Together Motiva (7,700 gas stations) and Shell Oil Products US (6,000 gas stations) form the #1 US gasoline retailing business. Motiva is a 50-50 joint venture with Saudi Aramco. Though the company has sold two of its refineries in this decade, Shell still operates four refineries throughout the country; Motiva has three of its own.

The core business activities of the Shell Group consist of Exploration & Production, Oil Products, Gas & Power, Chemicals and Renewable Energy. In Japan, the Oil Products business is operated by Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K., the Chemicals business by Shell Chemicals Japan Ltd., and Gas & Power business by Shell Gas & Power Japan Ltd. The company, which was born in 1985 of a merger between Japan's Showa Oil and Royal Dutch Shell's Shell Sekiyu, imports, refines, and distributes petroleum products. The firm's three local refining affiliates, Showa Yokkaichi, Toa Oil, and Seibu Oil, have a collective refining capacity of 515,000 barrels a day. The company owns a network of 4,575 gas stations across Japan. In 2004 Royal Dutch/Shell sold a 10% stake of Showa Shell to Saudi Aramco.

Sibir Energy plc is a fully integrated independent energy company with exploration and production operations in Western Siberia and refining and marketing in the City of Moscow and the Moscow region. Since its creation in 1996, Sibir has grown its attributable reserves to over 680 million barrels (Russian classification A+B+C1+C2) and daily production to over 80,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) making Sibir one of the largest UK-listed energy companies. In ten years of doing business in Russia, Sibir’s Western management team has partnered with its largest Russian shareholder to overcome the challenges of doing business in this dynamic market and has strengthened the company at each turn. Upstream, Sibir’s production comes from its Yuzhnoye field, operated by Magma Oil Company (95% Sibir owned), and its joint venture with Shell in the Shell-operated Salym group of fields (50% Sibir owned). Sibir’s total current production is over 80,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), including its 50% of production from the Salym Fields and its wholly owned Magma production unit. By the end of 2009 Sibir’s total production is expected to exceed 100,000 bopd.

A proud tradition was born on May 1, 1916, when Harry Sinclair formed Sinclair Oil from the assets of eleven small petroleum companies. Sinclair quickly grew to become the seventh largest oil company in the United States. The original Sinclair Oil Company began marketing the apatosaurus (brontosaurus) in 1930 and now after more than 70 years, "Dino" still remains one of the most recognizable corporate logos in the world. Way out west, where fossils are found, brontosaur signs appear all 'round. They belong to Sinclair Oil's more than 2,600 service stations and convenience stores in 21 western and midwestern US states. The company also operates three oil refineries, pipelines, exploration operations, and a trucking fleet, all in the western US. It owns a 71,500-barrels-per-day refinery in Rawlins, Wyoming, a 20,000-barrels-per-day unit in Casper, Wyoming, and a 75,000-barrels-per-day refinery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A diversified company, Sinclair also owns the Grand America Hotel, the Little America hotel chain, and two ski resorts (Sun Valley in Idaho and Snowbasin in Utah). The company is owned and led by R. Earl Holding.

Singapore and more. Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) refines and sells oil and petroleum products, both in Singapore and across Asia. A 50%-owner of the Singapore Refining Company (Chevron owns the other half), SPC converts crude products into fuels. It processes 51.5 million barrels of crude per year. The company is also engaged in oil storge and terminalling. SPC' also manages a network of 38 gas stations in Singapore. The group also has operations in mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Thailand. The company has exploration and production assets in Australia, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Singapore-based conglomerate Keppel owns 45% of SPC, but in 2009 agreed to sell this stake to PetroChina.
