National Semiconductor (UK) Ltd. company, which is a subsidiary of big analog chip maker National Semiconductor, began producing microchips in 1970. Through its wafer fabrication facility in Greenock, Scotland, it produces analog semiconductors, power management chips, LED drivers, and other devices used in mobile consumer electronics, medical imaging instruments, sensing and detection equipment, and communications gear. A lawsuit brought by employees of the Greenock fab, claiming that toxic chemicals used in the facility had harmed unborn children, was settled in early 2006. The United Kingdom is National Semi's second largest European market, after Germany.
