New Suzuki Swift Sport spied, launch in 2017

Suzuki is working on the new version of the Swift hatchback and the Swift Sport has now been recently spied testing in Europe. The new Suzuki Swift Sport is expected to make its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March, along with the new standard Swift model. The 2017 Swift is likely to be launched in India late next year.

The Suzuki Swift Sport will be based on the Baleno‘s platform, which reduces the overall weight of the vehicle and improves rigidity and performance. As the name suggests, the new Suzuki Swift Sport will have a sporty body design and will feature a rear spoiler, dual exhaust pipes, new sporty alloy wheels and a lower ride height than the standard Swift. Although, the car in the images is completely camouflaged, one can make out that the car will also be equipped with split front grille sporting bigger air dams, newly developed headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, body skirts and squarish tail lamps. The rear door handles of the car have been replaced and positioned close to the C-pillar. No interior images have been captured, but we believe that the 2017 Suzuki Swift Sport will get a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a new infotainment system that comprises of satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay and leather wrapped seats.

The new Swift Sport is likely to get its power from the Suzuki Vitara S’s 1.4 litre Boosterjet, four cylinder petrol engine that generates around 139 hp of power at 5,500 rpm and churns out 220 Nm of peak torque between 1,500 – 4,000 rpm. The Vitara's engine is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and all the power is sent to the Suzuki’s ALLGRIP AWD system. However, the company might not offer an AWD system and could offer the Swift with a 5-speed manual transmission. It is also expected that the car manufacturer would offer the 2017 Swift with a 1.0 litre Boosterjet or a 1.2 litre naturally-aspirated engine for the Indian market. The same engine will also power the upcoming Maruti Baleno RS. The latter makes more sense for India, as the Swift will be positioned below the Baleno and the same is expected to be applied to the sportier versions of these cars.
