Mahindra and Mahindra to launch new MPV to take on Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: Report
M&M is all set to roll out a new MPV (Multi-Utility Vehicle) to take on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, reported ET Now. The channel said that the new MPV is likely to be launched some time next year. M&M is also eyeing UVs in the range above the XUV 5OO. Anand Mahindra's M&M is also looking to ramp up its SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) line-up and is planning to develop two new platforms for the same.
According to the report, Mahindra and Mahindra is working on developing two new platforms for top-end SUVs. The auto major is working on three new global platforms to spruce up its portfolio, the channel reported. The report suggested that the platforms are being developed at the company's North America Technical Center.
Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to have petrol variants in its product lineup by 2018. In order to cater to the demand of petrol variants, the company is planning to introduce petrol engine in its bigger vehicles XUV500 and Scorpio. The firm had earlier launched the 1.99-L mHawk engine in both its models to beat the ban. The company will now export Scorpios with petrol engine from India.
Pawan Goenka ,Executive Director, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “Any product that we launch from a year after will come with a petrol engine. We are currently working on a 1.5 L petrol engine. So the petrol engines powering the future vehicles will be either of the three: 1.2, 1.5 or 2.0 L.” Mahindra is planning to develop new generation models with the South Korean-based manufacturer, Ssangyong, especially for the domestic market. The company is also planning to work on hybrid and electric vehicles.
