Maruti Suzuki Ignis launch around Diwali, features & specs

Despite rumours regarding a delay in the production of the Ignis compact crossover, the company will launch the vehicle around Diwali. This will allow the company to benefit from the festive season sentiments of consumers. Earlier, the market was flooded with rumours that the company might delay the launch of Ignis due to an order backlog for the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno. India will be the second market globally to receive the Ignis after Japan.

With the Ignis, Maruti Suzuki will mark its entry into the compact crossover segment, which presently consists of the Mahindra KUV 100. The car will be launched with a 1.0 L Boosterjet petrol engine, which will develop about 110 hp and will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. There is no clarity on the launch timeline for a diesel variant yet. However, we expect the Ignis diesel to be powered by the familiar 1.3 L DDiS engine along with the option of an automated manual transmission (AMT).

On the exterior, the Ignis has LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), high ground-clearance, flared wheel arches and a wide C-pillar. At a length of 3,679 mm, the Ignis is 25 mm longer than the KUV 100 but is less wider than the KUV 100's 1,705 mm at 1,660 mm. The Ignis also sits higher than the KUV 100 at 180 mm of ground clearance compared to the KUV 100's 170 mm.

The Ignis will be sold through Maruti Suzuki's premium retail chain, Nexa and will be the third vehicle to sold through Nexa after the S-Cross and the Baleno. At the time of its launch, we expect the Ignis price to start just under Rs 5 lakh and go up to around Rs 7 lakh.
