Axis Bank plans to open 400 branches in FY17
Axis Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, plans to open 400 new branches in financial year 2016-17.
“Of the branches targeted for the year (financial), efforts are on to open 100 in the current quarter of the fiscal,” Sanjay Silas, Axis Bank’s branch banking head, said. The bank would be eyeing the upcoming smart cities as its potential area.
Silas said the expansion plan of the bank would be connected to the smart city programme of the ministry of urban development. He added that the bank would conduct a detailed survey to study the feasibility in the proposed smart cities before taking final decision on opening the branch. The study would cover all aspects that include potential for infrastructure, industrial development etc.
The bank today rolled out the awareness programme “safe banking in digital era”, starting with Raipur, and planned to further take it across the region. The programme is aimed at creating awareness among the people about preventing emerging technology-based threats.
“The campaign would help the customers to carry out transaction in a secured environment across multiple banking platforms,” Silas said. Axis Bank has taken a significant step in this direction by creating awareness through various online and offline platforms and thereby contributing to build a safe banking environment, he added.
The bank has also introduced learning modules hosted on YouTube and other social media platforms.
