India-Africa summit: Narendra Modi set to meet heads of 20 nations today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the heads of state and government of 20 African nations on Wednesday, a day ahead of the 3rd India-Africa Summit in New Delhi.
Modi’s first bilateral meet during the summit will be with Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe, who is visiting India after a gap of more than two decades, according to the ministry of external affairs website. Once a frequent visitor to India, Mugabe’s last visit was in 1994 for the G-15 or Group of 15 developing countries summit. Prior to that Mugabe visited India in 1981, 1983, 1987, 1991 and 1993.
Other African leaders Modi is to meet on Wednesday include the presidents of Ghana John Dramani Mahama, Benin’s Boni Yayi, Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari, Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta, Uganda’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Djibouti’s Ismail Omar Guelleh, Niger’s Issoufou Mahamadou, Chad’s Idriss Deby Itno, South Africa’s Jacob Zuma, Gabon’s Ali Bongo Ondimba, Guinea’s Alpha Condé, South Sudan’s Salva Kiir, Mozambique’s Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, Lesotho’s Bethuel Pakalitha Mosisili and Sao Tome and Principe’s Patrice Emery Trovoada, the vice president of Botswana Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi and the king of Swaziland Mswati III.
The leaders are in attendance for the third India-Africa summit—billed as the largest gathering of African leaders outside the continent as well as the largest gathering of foreign dignitaries in India since the 1983 non-aligned movement summit.
The bilateral meetings are to start at 9.00 am and with each meeting slotted for about half an hour, Modi is expected to devote 10 hours to his bilateral meetings with these heads of state. The Prime Minister will also be meeting heads of state and governments bilaterally on 29 October as well as 30 October, foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said.

Authorities have unearthed a racket involving the manufacturing and sale of "fake" Mounjaro (tirzepatide) injections and arrested two persons here in this connection, an official said on Monday.
A nationwide alert has been issued to detect the counterfeit injections and an investigation is underway to unravel the entire network, including all those involved in this racket, Drug Control Officer Amandeep Chauhan said.
