Sensex ends 115 points down, Nifty settles at 8,517
The BSE Sensex ended 115.13 pts down at 28,071.93 after RBI kept the policy rates unchanged. NSE Nifty closed 26.15 points down at 8,516.90.
Asian Paints, BPCL, Bank of Baroda were among top gainers in the Nifty. Stocks of Idea, Cairn, ONGC and GAIL were among the top losers in the Nifty.
At 2.46 pm, Sensex was down 96.57 points at 28,090.49. Similarly, Nifty was down 20.75 points at 8,522.30.
Brokers said RBI’s decision to keep interest rate unchanged was largely in line with investor expectations.
In its bi-monthly policy review on Tuesday, RBI kept the short-term lending rate, or repo rate, unchanged at 7.25 per cent and the cash reserve ratio (CRR), the amount of deposits lenders park with RBI, at 4 per cent.
RBI also retained growth target at 7.6 per cent for 2015-16. It has cut rate thrice so far in 2015 by 25 basis points each.
The central bank was widely expected to maintain status quo on Tuesday, according to stock brokers.
