Investigation into IT companies unfortunate, says Nasscom
The trade association of Indian IT companies, National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), on Friday, termed the reports of the U.S. investigation into IT companies as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘an attempt to create negative sentiments about these companies’.
The apex body also said attempts were being made in certain quarters to create this negative impression without looking at ‘facts and logic’. It said such efforts would have detrimental impact on the strategic partnership and mutually beneficial economic and trade relationship the two countries were striving to nurture.
According to Nasscom President R. Chandrashekhar, “It has been brought to our attention that there are unconfirmed media reports that the U.S. government has opened an investigation against two of the biggest Indian IT companies for possible violations of H1-B visa rules.
“We believe that Indian IT companies have been and will remain compliant with all US visa regulations,” he added.
“In fact, Indian IT companies in the U.S. have made significant contributions to the U.S. economy in the form of creation of jobs for Americans, both direct and indirect, as observed by many of the local elected representatives themselves,” he stated.
