Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday announced an investment of ₹10 trillion over the next seven years to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and services in India.
"Jio will now connect India with the intelligence era. We will deliver intelligence to every citizen, every sector of the economy and every facet of social development and every service of government," Ambani said during the keynote address at AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
He said the investment, to be made by Jio together with Reliance, will begin this year. “This is not a speculative investment... This is patient discipline, nation building and strategic resilience for decades to come,” he said.
Ambani further said the biggest constraint in AI today is scarcity and high cost of compute, and India cannot afford to "rent intelligence". He added that Jio will reduce the cost of intelligence as dramatically as it did the cost of data.
Outlining Jio’s plans to reduce this cost, he said the company will build India’s sovereign compute infrastructure through a gigawatt (GW) scale data centre. "Construction has already begun on a multi-gigawatt AI infrastructure in Jamnagar. Over 120 megawatts will come online in the second half of 2026, with a clear path to gigawatt-scale capacity for training," he said.
He added that an edge-compute layer, deeply integrated with Jio’s networks, will make intelligence responsive, low-latency and affordable.
He also highlighted the group’s green energy capacity and its significance in the AI expansion. "We have an in-house energy advantage with up to 10 GW of ready green-power surplus, anchored by solar in Kutch and Andhra Pradesh," he said.

The Supreme Court on Thursday said that it will commence the final hearing on May 5 over 200 pleas including the lead one of IUML challenging the constitutional validity of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA).
The CAA seeks to grant citizenship to migrants belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Jain and Parsi communities who came to the country from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014.

Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani has filed an undertaking in the Supreme Court that he will not leave the country without its prior permission and fully cooperate with agencies' probe into the alleged Rs 40,000 crore banking and corporate fraud involving the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG).
In an affidavit filed before the top court, the industrialist stated that he was not a flight risk and has no intention to evade the process of law.

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel later this month, an MoU was signed between India and Israel to deepen defence ties and strengthen ongoing joint activities, including future seminars and cooperative initiatives.

After two days of uncertainty, the Gates Foundation India on Thursday said that founder Bill Gates will not deliver his previously scheduled keynote at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. The foundation, however, did not specify the reason for his withdrawal, saying only that the decision was made "to ensure the focus remains on the AI Summit’s key priorities".
