Star Indian batter Virat Kohli once again proved on Sunday why he remains indispensable for India’s plans leading up to the ICC 2027 World Cup. Batting first in the first ODI against South Africa at Ranchi’s JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Kohli scored his 52nd one-day international (ODI) century, extending his lead at the top of the list for most ODI centuries. Sachin Tendulkar, the next on the list has 49 ODI centuries to his name.
With this ton, Kohli also surpassed Tendulkar to become the player with the most number of centuries in any single international cricket format. Before today, Kohli, with 51 ODI centuries, was tied with Tendulkar, who had scored 51 Test centuries during his long international cricket career.
Improves position in overall centuries in international cricket
Kohli’s hundred in Ranchi, his 83rd international century (52 ODI + 30 Test + 1 T20I), keeps him firmly in second place on the all-time list. He is now 17 centuries behind Sachin Tendulkar, who leads world cricket with 100 international hundreds (51 in Tests + 49 in ODIs).
