Mukesh Ambani, India's richest man, is reportedly mulling to invest in the ambitious 'Stargate AI' project led by US President Donald Trump. The project is valued at USD 500 billion and has the backing of OpenAI, Oracle and Japanese company Softbank. Trump has dubbed it the largest AI infrastructure project in history. He said there is global competition for AI leadership, but Stargate is setting the standard.
If confirmed, Ambani's involvement in the project could mark a significant collaboration between Indian business leaders and international AI advancements. Recently, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella committed USD 80 billion to the initiative, signalling its immense potential.
Ambani's Reliance Industries has been steadily expanding its footprint in technology through investments in AI, big data and cloud computing. The billionaire is also planning to build what could become the world’s largest data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, Bloomberg reported.
Reliance is reportedly procuring advanced AI semiconductors from Nvidia Corporation. These high-performance chips are essential for the complex computations required by AI-driven tools, such as ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms. Ambani has a real-time net worth of USD 92.3 billion, as per Forbes. His Reliance is India's most valuable firm with a market cap of Rs 16.70 lakh crore, as of January 28.
