Reportedly, Maharashtra has begun its preparation for the third wave of COVID-19 for a caseload of 1.2 million which may happen during the peak time of the spread. This is based on the suggestions made by the Central government.
The Covid Task Force had warned the state of an increase in cases after Diwali which might lead to the third wave. The Uddhav Thackeray-led government is setting 531 oxygen generation plants and looking to stock anti-viral medicines.
Addressing the media, Rajesh Tope had said, "The second wave of the pandemic is not over yet. But there is no favourable condition for a third wave as of now. The state task force has cautioned of a third wave post the Diwali season. We are assessing the situation."
Projections for the third wave were made based on the highest active cases that were recorded in Maharashtra during the second wave of COVID-19 this year.
On the other hand, Maharashtra has recorded 1,141 new coronavirus infections and 32 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total tally of coronavirus cases in the state has reached 66,15,299, while the death toll has reached up to 1,40,345.
