Bihar Assembly elections: BJP expels nine rebels for contesting elections against NDA candidates

Days before Bihar goes to polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday took a tough a tough stance against nine rebels after they decided to contest the upcoming elections in the state against the National Democratic Alliance candidates. All the rebels have been suspended from the party for six years for 'indulging in anti-party activities'.
The leaders include Rajendra Singh, Rameshwar Chaurasia, Usha Vidyarthi, Ravindra Yadav, Shweta Singh, Indu Kashyap, Anil Kumar,Mrinal Shekhar and Ajay Pratap.
“You are contesting elections against NDA candidate, which maligns NDA as well as the party’s image. This is against the party principles. Thus, you are suspended for six years for indulging in anti-party activities,” a BJP notice signed by state party chief Sanjay Jaiswal said.
All nine were ticket hopefuls but the saffron party decided to field other candidates, forcing these leaders to quit the party and contest against the NDA candidates.
Rajendra Singh, Usha Vidyarthi and Rameshwar Chaurasia have joined the LJP, while Ajay Pratap has joined the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party.
Notably, BJP is contesting the Bihar Assembly Elections under the umbrella of NDA with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United), Hindustan Awam Morcha (Secular) and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) as alliance partners. As per the seat-sharing deal, the BJP will field candidates on 115 seats, the JD(U) will contest on 110 seats, while the VIP and HAM(S) will contest on 11 and 7 seats respectively. Notably, Lok Janshakti Party, which is NDA's partner at the Centre, has decided to go solo for the polls due to differences with the JD(U).
Voting in Bihar is scheduled in three phases. The first phase of polling will take place on October 28, the second phase is scheduled to happen on November 3 while the final phase will take place on November 7. The counting of the votes will be done on November 10.
