SBI Pinkathon Mumbai leg sees 10,000 participants
SBI Pinkathon, Empowering Indian Women, an initiative to promote women’s health and breast cancer awareness, concluded its Mumbai leg at MMRDA Grounds, Bandra-Kurla complex, on Sunday.
Ten thousand women across age groups and segments of the society participated in the 3-km, 5-km and 10-km categories.
The run was flagged off by Pinkathon founder Milind Soman, along with three prominent women: Arundhati Bhattacharya, chairman, SBI; Zahabiya Khorakiwala, MD, Wockhardt Hospitals; and Reema Sanghavi, co-founder, Pinkathon and MD, Maximus MICE & Media Solutions.
SBI was the title sponsor and Wockhardt Hospitals the medical partner. The run was organised by Maximus MICE & Media Solutions under the aegis of United Sisters Foundation.
In its third leg, the event saw some noteworthy participants — a group of 3,000 girls from municipal schools across the city, a group of 30 visually impaired and 10 underprivileged girls. There was also a squad of cancer survivors. The run had participants as old as 77 years.
Bhattacharya said, We have sponsored the Pinkathon to bring the issue of women’s health and early detection of breast cancer to the centre stage. In a household, women’s health receives the least priority. We believe a healthy women can make a healthy home and thereby a healthy nation. It is a noble cause and it was heartening to see so many women come together to highlight an issue of national importance.
