India sees highest single-day spike of 45,720 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 12.38 lakh

India has yet again witnessed its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with 45,720 cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With these fresh cases, India's coronavirus cases tally has gone up to 12,38,635, out of which there are 4,26,167 active cases and 7,82,607 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.
The death toll has gone up to 29,861 with 1,129 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,37,607 cases reported until Wednesday.
While Tamil Nadu has a tally of 1,86,492 cases and 2,144 deaths due to COVID-19, Delhi has reported a total of 1,26,323 cases and 3,719 deaths due to the virus.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that 1,50,75,369 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till July 22, of these 3,50,823 samples were tested on July 22.

The Telangana government has declared a half day holiday in Hyderabad and full holiday in Warangal and other districts on August 13 and 14 for all government and private schools in view of the IMD forecast of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Tuesday rejected a plea by Anil Ambani to settle charges in the Yes Bank case, which can expose him to a penalty of close to ₹1,828 crore, reported Reuters.
According to the documents reviewed by the agency, the investment was made in exchange for loans from Yes Bank to other group companies.

The increased levels of Russian crude imports into India may not last forever, and public-sector oil refineries are, therefore, continuing with term contracts with other suppliers and regions for firm and optional volumes to secure the country's refinery requirement in case of any volatile market situation, the government has said.
“Prior to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Russian crude oil was largely exported to Europe and China. The conflict and the resulting sanctions on Russian crude oil have resulted in increased flows of Russian crude into India due to attractive discounts,”.
