A terrorist has been killed by security forces in an ongoing encounter that broke out late evening on Thursday in Chewa Ullar village of Tral in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
Informing about the development, a top police official said, "one body of terrorists visible at encounter spot and searches are going one."
The operation was put on hold during the night and resumed early morning on Friday with the first light. Fresh exchange of fire occurred between terrorists and security forces, killing one terrorist. The operation is still underway and search for other hiding terrorists, if any, is going on.
"#ChewaUlarEncounterUpdate: So far 01 #unidentified #terrorist killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice," Kashmir zone police tweeted.
On Thursday evening, on a tip-off of the presence of terrorists in the area, a joint team of Police, 42 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation.
As the forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire on them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter, an official said.
This is the 12th encounter in South Kashmir in June and 36 terrorists have been killed so far. The total number of terrorists eliminated in Kashmir this year is now 109.
