NTPC wins Bangla power tender
New Delhi: NTPC Ltd will supply 300 MW of power to Bangladesh for 15 years at an estimated tariff of Rs 3.42 per unit.
NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), a subsidiary of the state-owned thermal power producer, has emerged as the lowest bidder for the tender floated by the, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
The power contract is likely to yield a revenue of Rs 900 crore each year, officials said.
"NVVN has emerged as the successful bidder (L1), both in short term and long term for 300 MW power. Financial bids were opened on February 11," NTPC said.
The BPDB had invited tenders for the supply of 500 MW of power from India both for the short term (June 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019) and the long term (January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2033).
According to officials, NTPC had bid only for 300 MW, which is secured in the bidding process.
NVVN, Adani Group, PTC and Singapore-based Sembcorp submitted bids by the scheduled date of January 11.
NTPC said the supply of electricity is likely to commence from June this year after the commissioning of the 500 MW HVDC inter-connection project between India and Bangladesh.
At present, India exports approximately 600 MW electricity to Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Union power minister R.K. Singh has said India will explore foreign markets such as Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh for the sale of surplus power. His comments assume significance as the average plant load factor or capacity utilisation in India is around 60 per cent.
