Market bloodbath continues as Sensex loses above 300 points, slips below 33,000-mark
NEW DELHI: The equity markets on Friday saw another day of huge losses as both equity benchmarks lost a per cent and Sensex slipped below the psychological mark of 33,000.
30-share BSE Sensex lost 316.41 points to close on 32,832.94 while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty finished trading on 10,121.80, down by 104.75 points.
The Street on Friday had opened with a positive outlook as Sensex went up by more than 100 points. However, the indices started losing an hour into trading and could not stage a comeback from thereon.
Sensex had lost more than 400 points on Thursday after government data revealed that fiscal deficit till October has gone above 96 per cent of the annual budget. The losses were further accentuated as investors engaged in profit booking on expiry of November future and options.
Among sectors, the Nifty PSU Bank sub-index bled the most, losing above 2 per cent. Other sub-indices like metal, pharma, media, IT and realty also lost above a per cent each.
Kotak Bank, NTPC, Maruti and Ambuja Cements were some of the stocks which managed to finish in the green while Adani Ports, Bajaj Auto, Tech Mahindra and IndiaBulls Housing lost the most.
