Markets rally as Sensex jumps more than 150 points, Infosys sees gains
The equity markets on Monday started the week on a positive note as both Sensex and Nifty gained half a per cent when the bourses closed.
The 30-share BSE Sensex gained 154.76 points to close on 31,750.82 while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty closed on 9,912.80, up by 55.75 points.
The markets' rally was led by Infosys which closed with a gain of more than 3 per cent on both the indices. The IT major had gained as much as 4.60 per cent in intra day trade to hit the day high of Rs 953.95 on the Nifty.
The markets are expected to stay choppy in anticipation of GDP and manufacturing index numbers which are due this week.
Apart from Infosys, NTPC, Sun Pharma and Hero MotoCorp were the major gainers on Monday while Dr. Reddy's, Tata Motors and SBI lost the most.
