In Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district, six minor girls were allegedly paraded naked as a part of a ritual to please the rain god in the drought-hit Baniya village and get relief. The incident took place on Sunday, as per the reports, and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has sought an immediate report from the Damoh district administration on the issue.
According to police, young girls were paraded naked to please the God of rain, a practice that is a part of the local ritual as villagers believe that this may result in rain.

A total of 27 GW of pre-permit and permitted new coal power plant proposals in India are now superfluous to its electricity requirements. These coal project proposals could jeopardise the achievement of India's widely-praised renewable energy target of 450 GW by 2030, a new report said on Tuesday.
These surplus 'zombie' plants, assets that would be neither dead nor alive, would require Rs 247,421 crore ($33 billion) of investment, yet are projected to lie idle or operate at uneconomic capacity factors due to surplus generation capacity in the system.

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 221 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4.57 million and vaccinations soared to over 5.48 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Tuesday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload, death toll and vaccination tally stood at 221,051,151, 4,574,419 and 5,489,941,974, respectively.

Covid-19 antibodies produced by the Pfizer vaccine decreased more than 80 per cent in senior nursing home residents and their caregivers six months after receiving their second dose, a US study has found.
The research led by Case Western Reserve University and Brown University in the US studied blood samples of 120 nursing home residents and 92 health care workers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that India was vaccinating at a record speed of 12.5 million doses per day, more than the population of many countries.

Hetero, a globally renowned vertically integrated pharmaceutical organization, on Monday announced that the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the generic version of Tocilizumab in India.
This authorisation will enable the medical practitioners to use the generic drug Tocilizumab for the treatment of Covid-19 in hospitalised adults who are receiving systemic corticosteroids and require supplemental oxygen, non-invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), Hetero said in a statement.

State-run oil and gas explorers ONGC's plan to complete merger of its refining subsidiary MRPL with recently acquired HPCL to align its upstream and downstream operations into two verticals has got delayed.
The process is now expected to be completed by FY24 as ONGC's plan to consolidate its refining and petrochemicals business around MRPL first itself is taking a lot of time, government sources privy to the development said. The proposed merger would only follow this consolidation exercise.

Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Monday said it has received approval from the US health regulator to market Sitagliptin, a medicine indicated to treat diabetes.
