Foreign Covid vaccine firms can do business here, but on India's terms: Min

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday said major foreign pharmaceutical companies manufacturing COVID-19 vaccines were demanding indemnity and sovereign immunity waiver to supply their vaccines in India, but the government made it clear that these firms are welcome to do business here but on our terms.

He was speaking at the launch of a book titled 'A Nation To Protect - Leading India Through The Covid Crisis' and authored by Priyam Gandhi Mody.

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 421.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.87 million and vaccinations to over 10.31 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Saturday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 421,348,262 and 5,872,338, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,317,284,055.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved proposals worth Rs 235 crore to Andhra Pradesh under the 'Garbage Free Cities' vision, the largest one-time approval of funds for legacy dumpsite remediation, a statement said on Friday.

The Centre's share in these proposals will be Rs 77.66 crore, a ministry official said, adding that rest of the amount will be borne by the state.
