The appointments committee of cabinet has named Ravneet Kaur, an IAS officer of 1988 batch, as the chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

Kaur will hold the post for a period of 5 years from the date of assumption of charge or till attaining 65 years in age.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday made helmets mandatory for high-risk positions. This, among several other changes, was approved by the Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) on recommendations from the men's cricket committee led by Sourav Ganguly and the women's cricket committee.

"We also discussed player safety, which is very important for us," Ganguly said. "The committee decided that it was best to make the use of helmets mandatory in certain positions to ensure the safety of players."

Out of all the reported digital payment frauds in India, over half (55 per cent) were United Payments Interface (UPI)-related, a new report released on Tuesday revealed. Another 18 per cent are card related, 12 per cent are related to internet banking and nine per cent are from phishing calls.

Most of the UPI-related frauds, however, have a low ticket size. According to "The Anatomy of Fraud 2023" report by digital solutions platform Bureau and consultancy firm Praxis, 50 per cent of these have an average ticket size of less than Rs 10,000.

The S&P BSE Midcap index hit a 52-week high of 26,567.21 in Tuesday's intra-day trade, on the back of strong earnings and renewed buying by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs). The index surpassed its previous high of 26,440.81, touched on December 12, 2022. It had hit an all-time high of 27,246.34 on October 19, 2021.

The centre is ready to approve the plans of the Vedanta-Foxconn joint venture to make semiconductor chips, a report in The Economic Times (ET) said. Senior government officials told the newspaper that this would be done under the aegis of the $10-billion India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

With this plan, the government plans to establish India as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.

MG Motor started accepting bookings for its small electric vehicle (EV), Comet at 12 noon on Monday. Customers can book their Comet by making a payment of Rs 11,000 on the MG Motor India website and MG Motor dealerships. Deliveries are expected to begin this month but in a phased manner.
