US headquartered Rakuten Medical, which has recently established a subsidiary in India, is now exploring regulatory pathways to commercialize treatments based on the Alluminox platform in India, beginning with head and neck cancer.

This therapy area uses non-thermal red light to target cancer cells in the head and neck region after the patient has been administered with an injectable drug about a day back.

Shares of Torrent Pharmaceuticals dipped 6 per cent to Rs 1,449 on the BSE in Wednesday's intra-day trade after the drug company, on Tuesday, signed a definitive agreement to acquire cosmetic dermatology player Curatio Healthcare for Rs 2,000 crore. The consideration includes Rs 115 crore of cash and cash equivalents in the acquired business, indicating an Enterprise Value of Rs 1,885 crore.

Curatio has operations in India, Nepal, Srilanka, and Philippines. The deal catapults Torrent from the 21st spot in the domestic dermatology market to the tenth spot.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Arun Singh on Wednesday said that the ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI) was necessary to keep the country intact.

"At the time when riots took place in many districts in Rajasthan, we had said that PFI was involved. Even here (in Karnataka), when Siddaramaiah was in power, more than 23 people were killed. To keep the country intact (PFI) ban was necessary," Arun Singh told mediapersons in Bengaluru.

Tech giant Oracle has been fined $23 million for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The firm created slush funds to bribe foreign officials in United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and India.

Referring to the company's India operations, the SEC said Oracle India's employees used "an excessive discount scheme" in connection with a transaction with a transportation company owned by the ministry of railways.

The rupee depreciated 40 paise to an all-time low of 81.93 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday as the strengthening of the American currency and risk-averse sentiment among investors weighed on the local unit.
