The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday said that not even a single claim or objection has been submitted by any political party regarding the draft electoral rolls in Bihar.

The Election Commission has asserted that no eligible elector will be left out and no ineligible elector will be included in the final electoral roll of Bihar.

The United States has imposed sweeping new tariffs on several countries, with India facing among the steepest hikes. A 25 per cent tariff on Indian imports came into effect on Thursday, following a directive signed by US President Donald Trump last week.

“They're fueling the war machine, and if they're going to do that, then I'm not going to be happy,” Trump told CNBC in an interview. He also criticised India’s existing tariff structure, calling it the primary point of contention.

The Congress on Wednesday said the Opposition's demand for a discussion on the "votebandi" by the Election Commission is "non-negotiable" in both Houses of Parliament.

There has been a logjam in Parliament over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, which the Opposition has alleged is being done to cut votes ahead of the state election.

The Supreme Court strongly criticised an Allahabad High Court judge for permitting criminal proceedings in what was "clearly a civil case". The top court called his reasoning "shocking" and found his understanding of criminal law to be deeply flawed, Bar and Bench reported.

The apex court also directed the Chief Justice of the High Court to remove Justice Prashant Kumar from all criminal matters and ordered that such cases should not be assigned to him in the future.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on August 5 cleared multiple defence proposals worth around ₹67,000 crore, aimed at significantly enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence said, “The Defence Acquisition Council, under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on August 5, approved various proposals amounting to a total cost of about Rs 67,000 crore.”
