Air India to shut all city booking offices by Oct 1

Air India plans to close its 64 city booking offices in the country by October 1. Saddled with rising losses, the government-owned airline is reviewing the viability of its offices in 46 foreign cities.

“The city office in Madurai has been closed. There is no need to maintain physical infrastructure for ticketing, cancellation and refund when most airlines are aggressively using the web. It has been decided to close all city booking offices by October 1,” said an Air India executive.

He’s also expanding his family office, which runs a Pratiksha Trust. According to Forbes magazine, Gopalakrishnan’s net worth is currently close to $1.5 billion (Rs 9,150 crore).

Japanese carmaker Honda emerged as the third-largest carmaker in July with a 40% jump in volumes to 15,709 units, overtaking home-grown player Mahindra, which saw a drop of 5% in monthly sales to 14,708 units.

With a market share that has more than doubled from about 3% in FY13 to almost 7% (April-June FY15), Honda is behind market leader Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai that command about 44% and 17% market shares, respectively.

BSE Sensex rose for the first time in three sessions and closed 96 points higher to reclaim the 26,000 level today powered by gains in bluechips, led by Bharti Airtel, on encouraging quarterly earnings.

After slipping to 25,850.04 points in early trade on selling by cautious participants ahead of monthly expiry in the derivatives segment, the 30-share Sensex bounced back to close 96.19 points, or 0.37 per cent, higher at 26,087.42. Intra-day, it touched a high of 26,113.48.

SINGAPORE: India's Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has sold a late August naphtha cargo at close to $23 a tonne above Middle East quotes on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, about 26 percent lower than two cargoes it sold recently, traders said on Monday.

The 35,000-tonne cargo, scheduled for Aug. 23-24 loading from Hazira, was sold to Unipec on Aug. 1, coming at a time when tight supplies have eased and traders were seen with unsold barrels.
