Ortel Communications, a regional cable television and broadband service provider, has filed draft documents with market regulator Sebi for a public issue of up to 1.42 crore equity shares.

This is the sixth company to file initial papers with Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) this year to garner funds through initial public offer (IPO) route.

Unidentified persons attacked a leading private hospital here with a crude bomb late last night.

Nobody was injured in the explosion that left the hospital's glass door shattered and triggered panic among the patients and staff members. The incident took place around midnight last night when a couple of motorcycle-borne youths pulled up in front of the hospital premises and hurled a crude bomb, said Dr Alok Mishra, one of the Directors of Phoenix Super-speciality Hospital situated in the posh Tagore Town locality of the city.

The Delhi high court on Friday set aside the order holding former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan guilty of filing incorrect expenses for the 2009 Assembly elections.

The EC in its July 13 order had also issued a show cause notice to Chavan seeking his response within 20 days on why he be not disqualified for the same.

Buoyed by improved sentiment in domestic automobile market, Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, has scaled up its projection for growth in cars sales this financial year.

"We will surely have a double-digit growth rate this year. We had not expected more than seven or eight per cent growth till the general elections, but our sales have grown at an average 16 per cent in the past five months. I will, however, not like to predict whether the rate for full year will be 12 per cent or 16 per cent," chairman R C Bhargava told Business Standard.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Thursday censured BSE for a matter related to allocations in the Rs 6,000-crore NMDC offer for sale (OFS) in 2012.

The exchange had confirmed orders for 45.5 million NMDC shares after the stipulated time. Bids by Citibank NA were confirmed between 6:22 pm and 6:30 pm, not within half an hour of the post-close session, as stipulated under Sebi norms.

State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s most networked bank, has announced that it will open 20 more branches in the state by the end of calendar 2014.

The biggest public sector lender today set up 15 new branches, taking its network to 799 in Odisha. Of the 15 branches, eight branches have come up in gram panchayats that have no access to banking services. “Eighty two per cent of our branches are located in rural and semi-urban areas.

  South Gujarat units fear closure with cut in APM gas supply

The small gas consumers of south Gujarat mainly engaged in glass and ceramic industry, are facing closure as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has decided to halve the supply of APM gas to over 30 units beginning September 16.

The units through their association South Gujarat Small Gas Consumers’ Association (SGSGCA) have approached the PNGRB and Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) that supplies APM gas, and made representation seeking relief. The association is awaiting response from the union government on the issue with in a few days.
