NTPC to invest Rs 5,000 cr in solar power project: Arup Roy Choudhury

As Madhya Pradesh hopes to generate over 2 Gw of solar power in the next few years, state-run NTPC is planning to play a major part in it. In an interview with Sanjeeb Mukherjee, NTPC Chairman Arup Roy Choudhury said the company will invest Rs 5,000 crore in a solar power plant in Rewa district over the next few years. Edited excerpts:

NTPC has been engaged in Madhya Pradesh for many years and has been one of the oldest investors in the state. How do you plan to expand?

N R Narayana Murthy, co-founder and former chairman of Infosys, has decided to step down from all positions at the information technology (IT) company, but some measures he had initiated seem paying off. The Bangalore-based company on Friday posted all-round growth beating the estimates on many counts.

On joining Infosys in his second innings in 2013, Murthy had initiated a three-pronged strategy: Cost-rationalisation (which he said would start yielding results in six-18 months), sales effectiveness (which would take nine-21 months to show results) and delivery effectiveness (benefits from which would be visible in 18-24 months). Starting October 10, Murthy will no longer be the non-executive chairman.

The Securities and Appellant Tribunal (SAT) on Friday admitted a plea by Reliance Industries (RIL) against a Rs 13 crore penalty imposed by capital market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).

Sebi in August had passed an order against RIL for allegedly failing to disclose of a key financial metric to investors.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged orders worth Rs 7,800 crore from Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO). The order is for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) for a 1320 mega watt (MW) plant near Chennai.

The company said that the order is to set up a 2X660 MW coal-fired supercritical thermal power project at Ennore SEZ.
