M&M shifts gear to meet engine norms

With fears of a temporary ban on sales in Delhi of large diesel vehicles being extended to other cities, Mahindra & Mahindra, India's biggest maker of sports utility vehicles (SUV), is considering reducing the size of its engines.

According to a Supreme Court order passed on Wednesday, the registration of SUVs and other diesel cars with an engine capacity of 2,000cc or more is banned in Delhi and the National Capital Region till March 31.

New Delhi: Extending its engagement with Paytm, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp. (IRCTC) allowed passengers to order food on a train by using Paytm’s mobile wallet.

Travelers can already make payments for e-tickets booked through the IRCTC website using Paytm’s service.

New Delhi: Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Wednesday launched six satellites of Singapore aboard Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C29) on Wednesday from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

With this, the national space agency completed 50 launches from Sriharikota since 1979.

The government has in-principle agreed to partner with Google’s Project Loon on a pilot basis and state run BSNL has been assigned to partner it, communications and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Wednesday after a meeting with Google’s CEO Sunder Pichai.

“In-principle we agree for a pilot project for Project Loon. We are quite open on the project and BSNL will partner with Google for it,” Prasad said.

In a freak accident, an aircraft technician died after being sucked into the engine of an Air India aircraft during push back at the Mumbai airport this evening.

The mishap occurred when the co-pilot of Mumbai-Hyderabad flight 619 mistook a signal for starting the engine and the victim, Ravi Subramanian, who was standing close, got sucked into it at bay 28 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji domestic airport around 8:40 pm.

An ATM of a private bank dispensed five times extra currency notes without deducting the additional amount from the card holder by mistake at Ajitgarh town of Sikar district.

The Axis Bank ATM delivered five times extra cash without deducting it from the bank accounts following which several people gathered there to withdraw money, the bank spokesperson said in a statement.
