With 11-year low oil price forcing oil and gas producers to cut spending, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday brainstormed with global experts on ways to attract investments and raise domestic production.

Modi, in a two-hour long meeting with experts including BP Group chief executive Bob Dudley and International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol, discussed steps needed to give fillip to domestic oil and gas sector where no major discovery has been brought to production in the last five years.

The S&P BSE Sensex lost 43 points, or 0.17 per cent, to close the day at 25,580. Nifty50, the 50-stock barometer, closed at 7,785, down 6.69 points, or 0.1 per cent. Tata Steel and GAIL were the top gainers in the index.

State-run power equipment maker BHEL has commissioned a 600 megawatt (MW) unit at Kakatiya Thermal Power Project, Telangana.

"The unit, commissioned at Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (KTPP) at Chelpur in Warangal District of Telangana, is the highest rating unit in the state," Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) said in a statement.
