Government denies further stake sale in BHEL; stock up 2%

Shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) have gained 2.22% to Rs 168 on the BSE after Heavy Industry Minister Anant Geete clarified to the media that there were no plans of divestment of the government's stake in the company.

According to reports, Heavy Industry Minister Anant Geete has categorically denied that a propsoal of further stake sale in Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) is being considered by the government at present.

Vodafone India, second largest telecom operator after Airtel, today launched its fourth generation (4G) network services in Kochi and said it would soon roll out the mobile broadband network in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Delhi.

The company had announced launching 4G services in late August this year, the same month when Airtel rolled out the high speed network in circles where it has the required spectrum. Vodafone has plans to start the service in the five key locations in first phase starting this month.

Shares of oil exploration and production companies such as Oil India, Cairn India and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) have slipped more than 3% on the BSE after crude oil tumbled to its lowest level in nearly seven years.

Oil India has dipped 4% to Rs 371, Cairn India is down 3.5% at Rs 131, while ONGC has declined 3% at Rs 217 on the BSE. The S&P BSE Sensex was down 0.46% or 117 points at 25,412 at 11:50 AM.

Donear Industries has locked in upper circuit for the second straight day, up 20% at Rs 24, also its 52-week high on the BSE.

The counter has seen huge trading volumes with a combined 3.24 million shares changed hands till 10:58 AM as compared to sub one million shares that were traded daily in past two weeks. There were pending buy orders for 1.5 million shares on the BSE and NSE.

Reliance Industries (RIL), the country's largest private sector company, has moved Rs 10,000-15,000 crore in the past few days from duration schemes to liquid schemes of mutual funds. Duration schemes are medium-term mutual fund schemes that provide good returns in a falling interest rate regime. Liquid schemes, on the other hand, are almost cash equivalent.

"Reliance Industries, the biggest investor in the mutual fund industry, has been aggressively shifting money from medium-term debt funds to near-cash liquid schemes in the past few days," said the chief executive of a fund house.
