Mumbai: Reliance Industries Ltd, the oil to yarn conglomerate launched its online fashion portal Ajio.com with the preview of its collection on Saturday at the ongoing Lakme Fashion week in Mumbai.

The show also saw the company unveiling its campaign ‘Doubt is Out’ with five show stoppers which included actor Sunny Leone, transgender activist, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, comedian, Bharti Singh, yesteryear actor, Helen and Suman Sharma, the first woman to fly the fighter plane MIG-35 as it tried to differentiate.

The Election Commission on Saturday directed that no newspaper advertisement be published on April 3 and 4 in poll-bound Assam and West Bengal without prior clearance, a move which came against the backdrop of controversial advertisements issued by BJP during Bihar elections.

The first phase of election in Assam and West Bengal will be held on April 4.

Ford India sold 21,198 vehicles (domestic 7,560 units, exports 13,638 units) in March 2016, up form 15,775 vehicles (domestic 5,253 units, exports 10,522 units) sold in March 2015 which is 5,423 units more than the previous sales, the auto company said in a statement.

On the other hand, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said it sold a total of 9,007 vehicles in March, down from 14,325 units sold in March 2015.

Aadhaar enrolments are set to cross the 100 crore mark in a couple of days, a development which will boost the government’s plan to provide subsidies and benefits under various social sector schemes directly.

As per the website of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which is implementing the Aadhaar project, “99.91 crore is the total number of Aadhaars issued as on date. Portal counts/reports are not updated due to maintenance activities. Portal will be updated shortly.”

Domestic equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended the week with marginal losses and also dipped for the first time in the past five weeks. For the week ended April 1, the BSE Sensex dropped 67.92 points or 0.26 per cent to 25,269.64, while NSE Nifty shed 3.45 points or 0.04 per cent to 7,713.05.

In the Nifty pack, share price of Bharti Airtel plummeted the most — 6.21 per cent, followed by Hindalco (down 5.42 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (down 4.53 per cent) and HDFC (down 4.09 per cent).

MUMBAI: The Securities & Exchange Board of India has told mutual funds to drastically reduce the number of funds under management and stick to only one fund per category in an attempt to end the complexities of mutual fund investing. The regulator believes that the current products list, longer than the number of actively traded listed stocks on stock exchanges, is confusing investors.

A plethora of schemes makes it impossible for an investor to gauge a fund's suitability and often the distinctions are too thin to make any significant difference, Sebi feels.

Indian Oil Corporation records crude oil processing at 56.1 MT in FY16

State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on Friday said it has achieved a new record crude oil processing of 56.1 million tonnes (MT) in 2015-16 fiscal, with highest ever distillate production.

IOC's nine refineries operated at 103.5% of the installed capacity in the fiscal, IOC Director (Refineries) Sanjiv Singh said.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned its fifth 500 MW set at Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Maharashtra. With this, 9 coal-based sets aggregating to 3,340 MW, all supplied and commissioned by BHEL, are now operational at Chandrapur STPP of Maharashtra State Power Generation Co Ltd (Mahagenco). The commissioned unit is the second 500 MW unit of Stage-III (2x500 MW) of the project being executed by BHEL.

Coal India misses 2014-15 production target, but clocks 8.6% growth

Although Coal India (CIL) missed its production target for 2014-15 by nearly 2.5 per cent at 536.5 million tonnes (mt), the company registered an output growth of 8.6 per cent compared with 2013-14. Its offtake, under tapered demand for coal, also rose 8.8 per cent during the year ended March 31, 2015.

Coal minister Piyush Goyal tweeted the growth to be the highest ever in “almost three decades”.
