NEW DELHI: On a humid summer morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stretched his arms, bent his legs, rolled his neck and twisted every sinew in his body as India celebrated the first International Day of Yoga with gusto, muscling into the Guinness World Records.
Late Sunday evening, it was announced that the Union ministry of Ayush had set two records — for the largest yoga session ever with 35,985 participants and for most nationalities, 84, taking part at a single venue.

Siemens Ltd has won an order worth approximately Rs 83 crore from Indian Railways’ Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi, for designing, supply and installation of 40 alternating current (AC) traction systems for dual cab high horsepower diesel engine locomotives.
The AC traction systems will be produced at Siemens’ Nashik factory in Maharashtra. The systems have been developed based on the insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) technology.

Air India made Rs 1 crore profit a day under Y C Deveshwar's chairpersonship in fiscal 1993. Deveshwar, who is stepping down as executive chairperson of ITC from next February, held the post of Air India chairperson during 1991-94. He was appointed by then civil aviation minister Madhavrao Scindia and succeeded Subhash Gupte who held officiating charge at that time.
Deveshwar's tenure in Air India was marked by improved profits and good management practices. He framed policies on succession planning and tried to bring focus on increasing corporate sales, say retired airline executives.

State-run LIC will "shortly" announce setting up of a credit enhancement fund to provide guarantees for infrastructure sector companies to help them access funds from domestic and overseas markets at lower cost.
"We expect LIC to announce it shortly," Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs Shaktikanta Das told Press Trust of India in an interview.

Country's largest software services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has partnered with four colleges to offer courses in Big Data as it looks to strengthen the pool of workforce in the digital technology space in India.
The four colleges -- Swami Vivekananda University (West Bengal), St Xaviers College of Arts and Science (Ahmedabad), Central University of Rajasthan (Rajasthan) and St Joseph's College (Bengaluru) -- will offer MSc programme specialising in Big Data starting July 2016.

Singapore/Mumbai/Toronto: Brookfield Asset Management Inc. is in talks with State Bank of India, the country’s largest lender, about forming a joint venture to invest in stressed Indian assets, people with knowledge of the matter said.
Brookfield, Canada’s largest alternative asset manager, has discussed investing about Rs.70 billion in the venture while SBI and its associate banks are willing to invest as much as Rs.20 billion, according to the people.

Apollo Hospitals Group has signed an MoU with Hainan Ecological Smart City Group (HESCG), a Chinese industrial park developer and operator, to jointly develop a highly integrated modern health care service facility and systems in the Hainan province, where a smart city is being developed in China's largest special economic zone.
The smart city on the island of Hainan will have residential infrastructure for high quality, pollution free community living and the proposed hospital with medical, nursing and paramedical colleges would cater to not only the people of the Hainan province but also attract medical tourists from mainland China and other nations.

With plans to raise $1 billion from international markets, private sector lender YES Bank is eying to setup an international branch here as a springboard to tap the Asian markets, its founder has said.
YES Bank has become the first Indian bank to receive government approval for a fully fungible composite foreign investment limit of 74%. Its Board of Directors has approved to raise an additional $1 billion of Equity Capital following the $500 million raised in May 2014.

In the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh Inc complaining about steep power tariffs, the state government has urged the Centre to increase the coal linkage for its thermal power plants from 65% to 100%.
The government said enhancing coal linkage would benefit power plants both in the state sector and those operated by private companies viz. Reliance Power, Bajaj Hindusthan, Lanco, Jaypee etc, which were set up after 2009 under a special package.

Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) said, on Tuesday, it is ramping up production of premium hatchback Baleno to meet the current demand and reduce waiting period.
The company also said that its Japanese parent Suzuki Motor Corp is expected to start pilot production at the Gujarat plant in the January-March quarter next year.
