US News & World Report, along with Y&R’s BAV Consulting and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday released an annual survey of the best countries in the world. Their 2017 rankings prioritized countries that enjoyed some measure of peace, quiet and prosperity. Switzerland took the top spot for the first time based on a combination of its attitude toward education, democracy, business and quality of life. Canada was ranked second and Britain third. Germany, last year’s winner, slid to fourth because of a string of terrorist attacks. Japan came in fifth place.

In the tariff war between Reliance Jio Prime, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea, users have found themselves in a fix among the confusing plans on offer. Ever since Reliance Jio announced its plans in India, there has been an interesting tariff war among telecom companies, where many of the rivals like Airtel and Vodafone have accused it of disrupting the market. While Jio offered its calling and data services for free earlier, both the ‘Welcome Offer’ and ‘Happy New Year’ have now ended. This means, now consumers of Jio network will have to pay for the data services in order to avail the offers. However, the calling will remain free forever, according to Reliance Jio.

Delhi University professor GN Saibaba and five others were on Tuesday convicted by Maharashtra's Gadchiroli court under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a case of alleged Maoist links. While Saibaba and and four others were givenfive years jail sentence, one person, Vijay Tirke, was given a ten sentence.

Judge SS Shinde convicted Saibaba under sections 13, 18, 20, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act which deals with conspiracy, being a member of terrorist gang or organisation and offences relating to support given to a terrorist organization. Saibaba is currently out on bail.

Ravichandran Ashwin's 25th five-wicket haul was the cornerstone of India's remarkable turnaround as the hosts defeated Australia by 75 runs in the second cricket Test to level the four-match series 1-1 in Bengaluru.

Indian women earn 25 per cent less than Indian men, according to the Monster Salary Index (MSI) on gender for 2016. This goes on to prove that gender is a major parameter in determining the salary of the employee, reported Livemint.

Men earned a median gross hourly salary of Rs 345.8, while women earned Rs 259.8 in 2016. This gap got narrowed by two percentage points from 27.2 per cent in 2015 and is closer to the 24.1 per cent in 2014. About 68.5 per cent women at Indian workplaces also feel that gender parity is still a concern.

Hyundai Motor India discontinued the successful little Santro in 2015 and since then has been missing out on the segment. However, the road's not closed for Santro as the company is planning to launch an all-new one as reported by us in November, 2016. It is expected that the manufacturer will retain the tall boy design hatchback in 2018, while adding new features and cosmetic changes. Hyundai had discontinued the Santro and that slot is now being covered with the old i10. When launched, the new Santro will be positioned between the Eon and Grand i10 in the company's model lineup. The hatchback will be developed by the Hyundai R&D team at the Indian centre.

Reliance Capital has sold its nearly 1 per cent stake in popular digital payments firm PayTm for Rs 275 crore to China's Alibaba Group in a deal reaping huge gains for the Anil Ambani-led group firm.

The financial services arm of Reliance Group had invested Rs 10 crore for this stake in Paytm.

The Sri Lankan navy has allegedly shot dead a 21-year-old fisherman and injured some others when they opened fire on fishermen from Rameswaram, who allegedly poached in Lankan waters on Monday night.

The fishermen who set out for ‘night fishing’ from the fishing jetty here on Monday evening, were fishing on the high seas around 10 pm, when the Lankan navy allegedly opened fire, reports received here said.

The government on Monday asked State Bank of India (SBI) to reconsider its decision to levy penalty on non-maintenance of minimum balance, which the bank plans to hike manifold from April 1 impacting over 310 million savings bank account holders.

SBI, according to a source, has also been asked to reconsider charges it proposes to levy on cash transactions and ATM withdrawals over specified limits.
