The government has approved the second tranche of capital infusion in public sector banks to enhance their capital base. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges, Dena Bank said it “has received a communication from Government of India vide its letter… dated March 16, 2017 informing inter alia capital allocation of Rs 600 crore as part of turnaround linked infusion plan.” Kolkata-based United Bank of India too said it has received a communication from the central government regarding capital allocation of Rs 418 crore as part of turnaround linked capital infusion plan.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today flagged off the all new Medha rake that comes under country’s first ‘Make in India’ EMU rake for suburban travel on Western Railways. Soon after giving a green signal to the train, Prabhu took to Twitter and said “1/ At Mumbai today to dedicate a host of amenities, services,Rail Infra to the nation from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. 2/Flagged off new Miraj-Solapur Express.Will give boost to Rail Connectivity in the region, provide convenience to people.” Manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai, the rake has a special indigenous 3 phase propulsion system. Earlier EMUs of Indian Railways have systems from either Bombardier or Siemens.

To boost local talent, tech giant Apple has announced it would invest $508 million in China to build two additional Research and Development (R&D) centres in Shanghai and Suzhou.
According to a report in MacRumors on Friday, Apple's attempt to boost its presence in China began last September with the opening of its first R&D centre in Beijing's Zhongguancun Science Park, often referred to as "China's Silicon Valley".

A court here will deliver today the quantum of punishment in a case of violence and rioting at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd's (MSIL) Manesar plant in 2012 in which a senior officer was burnt alive.
The court of additional district and sessions judge R P Goyal reserved its order after argument of the prosecution and defence over the quantum of sentence today.

Bengaluru: L &T Realty Ltd, the real estate unit of India’s largest engineering company Larsen and Toubro, has secured approval to develop a special economic zone (SEZ) in north Bengaluru, though its focus will be on projects in west India, said a company official.
The Mumbai-based firm plans to develop around 3 million sq. ft of commercial office space in the SEZ, which is part of a large mixed-use development with total developable potential of 9 million sq. ft, and also has a residential township.

Despite state-owned ONGC likely to keep its capital expenditure budget at R30,000 crore in FY18 — this does not include the R8,000 crore it has to pay GSPC if the deal closes — its oil output is likely to fall slightly while gas supplies will rise by over 1 billion cubic metres (bcm). This is based on internal estimates made by ONGC for the next financial year.
Apart from being under fire from the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), which has been asked to monitor its production especially in the larger fields, ONGC is in the news for its likely takeover of refining-marketing PSU HPCL.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) will look at introducing institutional players in the commodity markets in a gradual manner. "All institutions cannot come in at the same time," said Ajay Tyagi, chairman, Sebi at the international convention organised by Commodities market brokers.
This is the first public event addressed by the regulator since taking over on March 1. While institutions such as banks, alternative investment funds, which bring a more research approach to the market, will help the development of the market, "It has to be done gradually," he added.

The US will start accepting applications for H-1B work visas for the fiscal year 2018 from April 3 amid the uncertainties surrounding the visa programme, the most sought after by Indian IT firms and professionals.
Unlike previous years, the official announcement by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) did not say till when it would continue accepting the H-1B petitions.

In just 24 hours since its release, the highly anticipated trailer of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has clocked a whopping 50 million views across four languages and has become the most viewed Indian film trailer.
Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is releasing the Hindi version of the film, tweeted on Friday: "Truly the biggest trailer ever. 50 million views. Baahubali 2 trailer."

Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL), India’s second largest oil marketing company, is planning to enter the travel business with its personal travel offering, Happy Roads, which would help travellers plan and execute road trips, two senior company officials said.
BPCL is looking to launch the app in about two months, the executives said, requesting anonymity. Through the app, the state-run company hopes to draw more millennials, seen as being attuned to travelling by road, into its customer base.
