In a setback to the Aam Aadami Party (AAP), the Supreme Court on Monday upheld Delhi Lieutenant Governor's decision to nominate 10 'aldermen' to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices Narasimha, JB Pardiwala said that LG is expected to act as per the statutory mandate and not as per the aid and advice of the Delhi government.

Food aggregator platform Zomato on Thursday reported a consolidated profit of Rs 253 crore in the first quarter (Q1) of financial year 2024-25 (FY25), up from Rs 175 crore a quarter ago. The company turned profitable for the first time ever in the corresponding period last year (Q1 FY24), with a profit of Rs 2 crore.

Zomato’s revenue from operations rose 74 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to Rs 4,206 crore in Q1, up from Rs 2,416 crore a year ago. It had reported a revenue of Rs 3,562 crore in the previous quarter.

India's power consumption rose a meagre 3.5 per cent to 145.40 Billion Units (BU) in July compared to the year-ago period as rainfall brought down temperatures from the scorching heat.

In July 2023, the power consumption stood at 140.41 BU, according to official data.

The highest supply in a day (peak power demand met) also rose to 226.63GW in July 2024 against 208.95 GW in the year-ago month.
