Maruti launches new Swift with auto gear shift technology

The country's largest car firm Maruti Suzuki on Thursday launched the third generation version of its popular model Swift with price starting at Rs 4.99 lakh. The new model comes with an introduction of auto gear shift technology.

Swift, available in both petrol and diesel, has been priced between Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 7.29 lakh for petrol manual version, and Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 8.29 lakh for diesel manual variant.

With Nasdaq, Nikkei and other global indices suffering heavy losses, BSE started 500 points down on Friday Morning.

At opening trade, Sensex opened 526 points down and Nifty started 177.50 points in the red. At 9.50 AM, Sensex has recovered partially, still down by 458 points (-1.32%). Nikkei is currently down 629 points. Similarly Hang Seng has seen heavy selling with index tumbling 3%, over 1000 points.

Luxury car maker Mercedes has told the Indian government to act cautiously while formulating the policies related to electric vehicles (EV) or else it may cause job losses like the ones in Europe.

Contrary to popular belief that Air India made a turnaround under the current National Democratic Alliance government, figures show that its loss widened instead. According to figures provided in Parliament by minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha, the state-owned carrier registered a loss of Rs 57.65 billion in FY17, Rs 19.29 billion higher than Rs 38.36 billion loss in FY16.

The figures reflect significant deviation from the minister’s own parliamentary disclosure on July 27, 2017.

Dismissing speculation about 2018 being a come-back year for the IT sector, the president of the industry body Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services Companies), R Chandrashekhar, said, “That’s the problem, that people proclaim a major revival very quickly.” “Neither was a decline predicted nor a sudden massive revival or change this year,” he told PTI here.

Mumbai: The rupee depreciated 10 paise to 64.38 against the US dollar in opening trade on Thursday due to increased demand for the US currency from importers amid fresh foreign funds outflow.

However, a weak dollar in global markets helped the rupee limit its losses, dealers said.

Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said IOC and BPCL are both keen to acquire gas utility GAIL India Ltd, which as per the extant policy needs to be split by separating gas transportation business from its marketing unit.

IOC and BPCL have separately indicated to the Petroleum Ministry their interest in taking over GAIL to add natural gas to their oil refining and marketing business.
