NTPC FY18 profit slips 2% to Rs 10,502 cr

State-owned power generator NTPC’s profit in FY18 slipped by 1.9% from last year to Rs 10,501.5 crore, notwithstanding a 7% rise in revenue to Rs 88,083 crore in the same period, as its finance costs in the fiscal went up by 21% to Rs 4,434.6 crore. The company was also affected by under-recovery of about Rs 800 crore on account of fuel shortage at several of its generating stations, underscoring the ongoing issue of coal scarcity at power plants across the country.

Amazon Wholesale India — the business-to-business (B2B) division of e-commerce firm Amazon India — posted a net profit of Rs 2.8 crore for the year ended March 2017 against a net loss of Rs 23.2 crore in the preceding year, according to filings with Registrar of Companies (RoC) and documents sourced by data intelligence platform Paper.VC. Revenue from operations increased to Rs 7,047.3 crore in FY17 from just Rs 2.6 crore in FY16.

The department of telecommunications (DoT) will hold deliberations on Wednesday with stakeholders, including Trai, on standards and regulatory issues related to the launch of 5G services in the country. Some of these players have put in their expression of interest with the resolution professional for possession of the two hospitals that are in Mumbai and Vishakhapatnam, according to people directly involved in the bidding process.

The company, which beat its revised guidance for order inflow in the last financial year, remains optimistic of a promising year ahead for new orders.

President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday agreed that it is "imperative" to completely dismantle North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program, the White House said.

During a telephone call, the pair "discussed recent developments in North Korea and confirmed they would meet again to continue close coordination in advance of the expected meeting between the United States and North Korea," a statement read.
