NEW DELHI: India’s telecom regulator will meet top executives of mobile phone companies next month to chalk out an action plan for 2019 and may issue a consultation paper next week on whether Over-the-Top (OTT) apps such as Skype, WhatsApp and Google Duo should be regulated.

More than 30 flights operating through the Mumbai airport were delayed by 2-6 hours after about 400 employees of Air India’s ground handling unit struck work since Wednesday night.

Flights were delayed between 11 pm Wednesday and 12 pm Thursday, said multiple people aware of the situation. There were, however, no cancellations, they said.

The Cabinet on Thursday approved continuation of quota for state-owned ITI Ltd in procurement made by three telecom firms — BSNL, MTNL and BBNL.

"Provision of procurement quota from BSNL, MTNL and BBNL will provide further boost to the order book of ITI and help in improving its financial health," an official statement said.

That a large part of NTPC’s reported under-recoveries of Rs210 crore in Q2FY19 was due to unavailability of coal exacerbated the coal supply crisis in the country. The company had reported Rs 1,400 crore of under-recovery in FY18, of which Rs800 crore was due to coal shortage.

The company’s net profit slipped 1.1% year-on-year (y-o-y) to Rs2,417.6 crore in the quarter. Fuel stock at NTPC’s power plants remains low with current coal stock of 3.7 MT from a high of 6.9 MT.
