IT raids: EC calls CBDT chairman, Revenue Secretar

The Election Commission has called the revenue secretary and chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes on Tuesday to discuss ongoing income tax raids.

Revenue Secretary A B Pandey and CBDT Chairman P C Mody have been called to explain the raids amid allegations by the Congress that the ruling BJP was using enforcement agencies to target it during the poll season.

Infosys hits new high of Rs 774 ahead of March quarter results

Infosys shares hit a new high of Rs 774, up 1 per cent, on the BSE in early morning trade on Tuesday ahead of its January-March quarter (Q4FY19) results on Friday. The stock has surpassed its previous high of Rs 771 touched on February 8, 2019, in intra-day trade.

In the past three weeks, Infosys has outperformed the market by gaining 9 per cent, after the IT major commenced buyback offer on March 20. In comparison, the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex was up 2 per cent and the sector index S&P BSE IT index was up 6 per cent during the same period.

A bench of Justices SA Bobde and SA Nazeer observed this while hearing a plea which has highlighted difficulties faced by the devotees at Jagannath temple and their alleged harassment and exploitation by the 'sevaks' (staff).

The rupee opened eight paise higher at 69.59 against the US dollar on Tuesday amid soaring oil prices and subdued Asian equities. The domestic unit tumbled 44 paise to close at 69.67 on Monday amid higher dollar demand from importers and rising crude oil prices.

It was the third straight session of loss for the domestic unit, during which it has lost 126 paise.

GIC, Singapore government's sovereign wealth fund, on Monday sold 70 million shares of the country's largest real estate developer, DLF, in a block deal for around Rs 1,344 crore.

The shares have been bought by existing investors who had pumped in Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) programme at Rs 192. After the block deal broke, DLF share prices cracked by almost 8.4 per cent to close at Rs 184.60.
