Govt invites preliminary bids for sale of its entire 52.98% stake in BPCL

The government invited bids on Saturday for the sale of its entire 52.98 per cent stake in the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).

Expressions of interest for the strategic sale of BPCL were invited by May 2, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) said in the bid document.

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India cut production by 5.38 per cent in February at 1,40,933 units, according to a regulatory filing by the company. Maruti Suzuki India had produced a total of 1,48,959 units in the same month last year.

Total passenger vehicle production stood at 1,40,370 units last month as against 1,47,550 units in February 2019, a decline of 4.87 per cent, it added.

The CBI has taken over investigation into the Rs 2,267-crore Employee' Provident Fund scam in Uttar Pradesh, where hard-earned savings of government employees were invested in the Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL), which is facing a probe, officials said on Friday.

The agency has re-registered the FIR filed by the Uttar Pradesh police at the Hazratganj police station, according to officials.

The central bank will send the plan to the lenders or interested investors. The plan will then be sent to the central government for approval, one of the two people aware of the matter said.

As the Coronavirus spreads like wildfire, spreading across more than 90 countries, China-the epicentre of the outbreak-has reported 30 more deaths, taking the death toll to 3,042.

The National Health Commission received information about 80,552 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus from 31 provinces [regions and municipalities], including 23,784 currently ill people. 5,737 people are in critical condition, 3,042 have died, 53,726 people have been discharged from hospitals, the commission stated.

The State Bank of India (SBI) has been authorised by its board members (an in-principle approval, it is being said) to invest in the capital-starved Yes Bank, hours after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday imposed a moratorium on the troubled private lender and the withdrawal limit for depositors at Rs 50,000.

On Thursday, the central board of SBI discussed the matter at a meeting and later informed the exchanges.
