On his first day in office, President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to BRICS nations, reiterating that any country pursuing de-dollarisation would face a 100 per cent tariff on trade with the United States. In his first post on Truth Social after assuming office as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump announced the dismissal of four senior government officials appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, and warned that more removals are forthcoming.
“Our first day in the White House is not over yet! My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again,” Trump wrote in his post.

Describing it as "another mighty blow to Naxalism", Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said 14 Naxalites were killed in a joint operation by the CRPF, SoG Odisha and Chhattisgarh Police along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday alleged that the Mahayuti government's handling of the appointment of guardian minister was a sign of internal discord in the alliance.
The state government on Saturday announced guardian ministers for 36 districts of the state, but a day later, issued an order to stay the appointments for Nashik and Raigad.
NCP's Aditi Tatkare was appointed as the guardian minister for Raigad, while BJP leader Girish Mahajan was given the responsibility of Nashik.

Sanjay Roy, convicted of raping and murdering a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was sentenced for life on Monday (January 20). The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
During a hearing in the Sealdah Court, Roy maintained his innocence, claiming he was framed. "I haven’t done this. I have been framed... You decide whether I have been framed or not," he said.

Actor-politician, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam chief Vijay on Monday vowed support to farmers opposed to the proposed airport at Parandur near here, and alleged some 'gain' for the ruling DMK dispensation in the project and asserted that people understood it.
