E-commerce companies Amazon and Flipkart are expecting to witness a total business of about $600 million during their ongoing sale events. This is at least 25 per cent higher in terms of sales compared to the business these firms would have generated for such small scale events during pre-Covid times, according to the industry insiders and analysts. They are also witnessing an increase in volumes (number of orders) which is 40 per cent higher than the normal times. Walmart-owned Flipkart is running the 5-day ‘Big Saving Days’ sale till Monday, coinciding with Amazon's 48-hour Prime Day sale which ended on Friday night.

With a single-day spike of 61,537 new COVID-19 cases and 933 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally surged to 20,88,612 on Saturday.
The death toll due to the disease now stands at 42,518 in the country, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
The COVID-19 tally of 20,88,612 cases includes 6,19,088 active cases, 14,27,006 cured/discharged/migrated, stated the Union Health Ministry.

Rapper Badshah was interrogated by Mumbai Crime Branch concerning fake social media followers scam. The rapper-singer whose original name is Aditya Prateik Singh Sisodia was questioned for ten hours on Friday and has been called in again on Saturday to the Crime Branch office. He has to answer 238 questions prepared by the Crime Branch and for the further questioning has been called in consecutively for two days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra, a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, on Saturday. Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra, an interactive experience centre on the Swachh Bharat Mission, was first announced by the Prime Minister on April 10, 2017, on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Gandhiji's Champaran Satyagraha.
The installations at RSK will introduce future generations to the successful journey of the world's largest behaviour change campaign, the Swachh Bharat Mission. A balanced mix of digital and outdoor installations in the RSK will impart information, awareness and education on swachhata and related aspects, the Prime Minister's Office said in a press release.

The death toll in Gujarat due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) had risen to 2,606, with 22 more patients succumbing to the dreaded virus, officials said. The state on Friday saw 1,074 positive cases being detected from 26,591 tests. This has taken the total number of infections to 68,885.
On Friday, 1,370 patients were discharged. So far, 51,692 have been discharged in the state.

The death toll in the flight crash landing incident at Kozhikode in Kerala rose to 17, Air India Express informed on Saturday.
While the two pilots are among the deceased, the four-cabin crew members on board the aircraft are safe.

State-owned engineering firm BHEL on Friday said it has commenced civil works at 660-MW Sagardighi supercritical thermal power project in West Bengal.
Following the strategic completion of pre-engineering activities for the project beforehand, ground breaking has begun on zero date itself, a BHEL statement said.

Gold prices jumped on Friday to Rs 55,350 from Rs 54,700 per 10 gram, while silver climbed to Rs 73,500 from Rs 71,500 per kilogram, according to Good Returns website.
Gold jewellery prices vary across India, the second-largest consumer of the metal, due to excise duty, state taxes, and making charges.

Shares of Vodafone Idea dipped as much as 7.4 per cent to Rs 7.64 on the BSE on Friday after the telecom operator reported a sharp rise in its losses to Rs 25,460 crore for the June quarter of FY 2020-21 due to high provisioning for statutory dues. In comparison, Vodafone Idea's loss stood at about Rs 4,874 crore in the year-ago period.
The revenue from operations came in at Rs 10,659.3 crore for the first quarter of FY21, against Rs 11,269.9 crore in the same period of the previous year, according to a regulatory filing.

Shares of Torrent Power rallied 9 per cent to hit a 52-week high of Rs 357.50 on the BSE on Friday after the company posted a 35.3 per cent year-on-year (YoY) rise in its consolidated net profit at Rs 372.66 crore against Rs 275.27 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.
Revenue from operations, however, stood at Rs 3,007.05 crore, down 19.5 per cent against Rs 3,736.13 crore in the June 2019 quarter.
