India’s leading global IT company Wipro has said it will provide new books to tens of thousands of children in need across five cities in North America.

For this it has entered into a tie up with First Book, a non-profit social enterprise.

A former employee of India’s third largest IT services firm Wipro, has sued the company for a compensation of around £1 million, in a case of sexual discrimination, unequal pay and unfair dismissal.

Shreya Ukil, 39, who worked in the Bengaluru-based company’s London office alleged that she was subjected to a “deeply predatory, misogynistic culture.”

BENGALURU: Months after it poached Tata Consultancy Services veteran Abid Ali Neemuchwala as its operations chief, Wipro has roped in yet another top executive from TCS, Dave Chopra as Vice President of its key global infrastructure business. India's third-largest software exporter confirmed the development.

"Wipro can confirm that Dave Chopra has joined the company as vice-president, global infrastructure services, and will be responsible for driving strategy, marketing and business development for GIS.

Bengaluru: Wipro Ltd’s chief operating officer Abid Ali Neemuchwala is implementing a back-to-basics strategy that includes simplifying processes and finding ways to sell more to clients as pressure builds on the top executives at India’s third-largest software services company to deliver faster growth.

“What we are doing is making many or our internal processes simple,” Neemuchwala, who joined as chief operating officer of the Azim Premji-controlled company in April, said in an interview on Tuesday.

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji and HCL founder Shiv Nadar are the only two Indian tycoons in the top 20 richest people in the world of technology, according to an inaugural list by Forbes that has been topped by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

Premji is ranked 13th on Forbes’ first ever list of ‘100 Richest People In Tech’, followed by Nadar on the 14th spot.

BENGALURU | MUMBAI: India's $146-billion information technology (IT) industry is consistently haemorrhaging more people than ever before, even as the sector and large companies such as Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) and Infosys achieve greater size and scale with each passing year.

Over the last four quarters, India's largest software exporters TCS, Wipro and Infosys combined have lost roughly over 100,000 people between them, ET's analysis shows.

Bengaluru: Wipro Ltd has come up with a clutch of measures to improve its delivery side of business. It believes the measures will help it return to industry-matching growth numbers and generate more revenues from existing clients.

Chief executive officer T.K. Kurien said that benefits of these steps should start reflecting from the December quarter, although the management declined to share by when it will get back to industry-matching growth numbers.

Benchmark indices continue to trade in the negative zone due to persistent selling on the back of weak corporate earnings amid weakness in the global peers.

At 12:15 PM, the Sensex was lower by 84 points at 28,286 and Nifty slipped by 20 points at 8,569.

Shares of Wipro Ltd slipped over 1 per cent ahead the IT company’s first Quarterly of financial year 2015-16.

At 11:50 am, Wipro stocks dropped 1.02 per cent at Rs 579.40 on BSE. On NSE, Wipro stocks slide 0.86 per cent at Rs 579.60
